Notion Pricing Explained: Plans, AI, and Real Cost

Notion’s public pricing currently lists Free at $0, Plus at $10 per member per month, Business at $20 per member per month, and Enterprise at custom pricing when the pricing page is set to yearly billing. Business includes Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, and Enterprise Search, but Custom Agents use a separate Notion credit system: $10 per 1,000 monthly credits. The real cost is therefore seats plus agent usage, paid site domains, implementation, and administration.

What does each Notion plan actually include?

Free

The Free plan is useful for individual notes, lightweight databases, and product evaluation. Notion lists $0 per member per month. Individuals can create unlimited pages and blocks, while multi-member free workspaces have collaboration limits.

Free includes only a trial of Notion AI. It is not the right cost baseline for a team planning to use Notion Agent, Enterprise Search, or recurring Custom Agents.

Plus

Plus is listed at $10 per member per month on yearly billing. It adds unlimited collaborative blocks, unlimited file uploads, longer page history, custom forms, more capable sites, and basic connections.

Plus remains a collaboration plan rather than the full AI workspace plan. Notion’s pricing page still describes its AI access as a trial. If a team’s buying reason is Notion Agent or connected-app search, use Business—not Plus—in the budget.

Business

Business is listed at $20 per member per month on yearly billing and is the relevant plan for most teams evaluating Notion as an AI workspace.

Notion currently includes:

  • Notion Agent for on-demand, multi-step work;

  • AI Meeting Notes;

  • Enterprise Search across Notion and connected apps;

  • SAML SSO;

  • granular database permissions;

  • page verification;

  • private teamspaces;

  • premium connections.

Custom Agents are available to Business customers, but their runs are not included without limit. They consume Notion credits purchased separately.

Enterprise

Enterprise uses custom pricing. It adds controls such as SCIM provisioning, audit logs, advanced security settings, domain management, security and compliance connections, customer success support, and zero data retention with Notion’s LLM providers.

A quote should specify more than the seat price. Ask which AI features, connectors, support commitments, data terms, and credit arrangements are included.

Is Notion AI included in the price?

The short answer is: some AI capabilities are included on Business and Enterprise; autonomous Custom Agent usage is metered separately.

Notion says Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, and Enterprise Search are included in Business and Enterprise at no additional cost. Custom Agents use Notion credits. Starting May 4, 2026, those credits became the operating currency for recurring agent work.

This distinction matters because two teams on the same Business plan can have very different bills:

  • a team using Notion Agent interactively may pay only for seats;

  • a team running scheduled routing, reporting, research, or inbox agents also pays for credits;

  • a team connecting external agents or Workers may add still more usage-dependent cost.

Do not describe Business as “all AI included.” Describe it as “core AI included, autonomous agent execution metered.”

How do Notion credits work?

Monthly Notion credits cost $10 per 1,000 credits. They are shared across the workspace and reset monthly. Unused monthly credits do not roll over.

Credit consumption depends on:

  1. How much the agent reads. Searching more pages, longer documents, or larger databases consumes more.

  2. How many steps it takes. Tool calls, writes, notifications, and multi-step reasoning add usage.

  3. How often it runs. A simple hourly workflow may cost more than a complex weekly workflow.

  4. Which model it uses. More advanced models can consume more credits.

If the workspace runs out of credits, Custom Agents pause until credits reset or an admin adds more. Notion notifies admins around 80% and 100% usage.

What does a Custom Agent cost per run?

Notion publishes indicative ranges rather than a fixed price for every workflow.

Example workflow

Official estimated cost per run

Approximate runs per $10 / 1,000 credits

Q&A agent

$0.03–$0.11

90–333

Task routing

$0.05–$0.15

65–190

Status update

$0.08–$0.18

57–133

Mail triage

$0.04–$0.10

100–250

Daily brief

$0.10–$0.30

33–100

These are planning ranges, not guarantees. The most reliable estimate comes from the credit dashboard after running the actual agent with representative data.

Worked Notion Business monthly cost scenarios for 10, 50, and 100 person teams

How do you calculate the real monthly Notion cost?

Use this model:

Monthly Notion cost = paid members × plan price + Custom Agent credits + paid domains + implementation + administration + connected-tool cost

Most quick comparisons stop after the first term. That can understate the total.

Example: 10-person Business workspace

  • Seats: 10 × $20 = $200/month

  • One status agent, 60 runs/month: about $4.80–$10.80/month

  • One daily brief, 22 workdays: about $2.20–$6.60/month

  • Estimated direct total: $207–$217/month, before domains, setup, and admin time

Example: 50-person Business workspace

  • Seats: 50 × $20 = $1,000/month

  • Five routing agents, 500 total runs: about $25–$75/month

  • Ten weekly status agents, 400 total runs: about $32–$72/month

  • Estimated direct total: $1,057–$1,147/month

Example: 100-person Business workspace

  • Seats: 100 × $20 = $2,000/month

  • A shared 20,000-credit monthly pool: $200/month

  • Estimated direct total: $2,200/month

The 20,000-credit assumption is only a scenario. Run a pilot to determine the real number.

Which users need paid seats?

Notion charges paid plans per member. Guests are free, but they can access only pages to which they are invited and do not receive full workspace membership.

This creates a governance decision:

  • use members for people who need broad teamspace access and normal workspace participation;

  • use guests for narrowly scoped external collaborators;

  • do not use guests as a billing workaround if their job requires member-level discovery, navigation, or administration.

Also budget for seat timing. Notion says adding a member without an available paid seat increases the paid seat count and creates a prorated charge. Removing a member opens an available seat, but does not immediately refund the remaining term.

What pricing details are easy to miss?

The displayed plan price depends on billing mode

Notion’s page lets buyers switch between monthly and yearly billing and says yearly billing can save up to 20%. Record the selected billing mode when capturing a quote. Never compare an annual Notion rate with a monthly competitor rate without normalizing both.

Custom domains are separate

Notion lists custom domains and branding at $8 per month per domain when paid annually or $10 monthly. This is relevant for teams publishing multiple public sites.

Enterprise Search may still be labeled beta

The current pricing page labels Enterprise Search as beta. Buyers should verify connector availability, limits, support, and production commitments in their order terms.

Workers have their own transition to credits

Notion’s pricing page says Workers are currently free to try and start using credits on October 15. That date and the credit mechanics should be reconfirmed before modeling developer-platform cost.

Credits do not automatically equal business value

A low cost per run can still be wasteful if the workflow reads too much, triggers too often, or produces work nobody reviews. Measure accepted outputs, resolved tasks, or saved cycle time—not just completed runs.

How should a team evaluate Notion pricing?

1. Separate collaboration from AI automation

First price the workspace needed for docs, databases, projects, and permissions. Then add the AI workflows. This keeps a speculative automation plan from distorting the collaboration decision.

2. Build a seat map

List every person as a member, guest, or non-user. Include contractors, executives, service accounts, and seasonal contributors. Apply the correct access model rather than assuming every collaborator needs a paid seat.

3. Inventory autonomous workflows

For each Custom Agent, record:

Field

Example

Trigger

Every weekday at 08:00

Expected runs/month

22

Pages or systems read

Calendar, Mail, project database

Writes/actions

Draft brief, update page

Human reviewer

Operations lead

Failure behavior

Pause and notify

Monthly value metric

Brief accepted without rework

Credit cap

Set after pilot

4. Run representative tests

Test with real document volumes and real schedules. A small demo database will underestimate the reading and retrieval required in production.

5. Add operating cost

Include agent setup, prompt and instruction maintenance, access review, incident response, source cleanup, and monthly usage review.

6. Compare cost per completed workflow

The useful denominator is not seats or credits. It is a trustworthy outcome: a routed request, an approved status report, a resolved question, or a reviewed decision.

When is Notion Business likely worth the upgrade?

Business is a reasonable fit when the team will actively use several of its included capabilities: Notion Agent, meeting notes, connected search, SSO, granular database permissions, verified pages, and private teamspaces.

It is harder to justify when:

  • the team primarily needs documents and light databases;

  • only a small subset needs AI;

  • most source knowledge lives outside supported connections;

  • autonomous workflows require heavy credit usage;

  • the organization needs stronger separation between agent permissions and human access;

  • the real job is coordinating reusable human-agent work rather than adding AI to a page-centric workspace.

What should buyers ask Notion before signing?

  1. Is this quote monthly or annual, and what is the effective per-member rate?

  2. Which users must be paid members?

  3. Which AI features are included without credits?

  4. Which features use credits now, and which will start later?

  5. Do unused credits expire or roll over?

  6. What happens when a workspace or agent reaches its limit?

  7. Which connectors are generally available, beta, or plan-restricted?

  8. Are support, implementation, and migration included?

  9. What data retention terms apply to each model?

  10. How do price and credits change at renewal?

How does this compare with an agent-native workspace?

Notion’s model begins with a per-member collaboration workspace and layers autonomous agent usage on top. An agent-native workspace can start from a different unit: shared work, scoped resources, and reviewable agent participation.

The strategic question is not “Which seat is cheaper?” It is:

  • Where does authoritative context live?

  • How are people and agents granted access?

  • Can agent work be inspected and corrected in the same place?

  • Does the system preserve ownership, provenance, and review state?

  • Is cost driven by headcount, agent activity, or both?

Dokki is designed around shared resources that people and authorized AI agents can work on together. Teams comparing it with Notion should model the workflows they intend to run, the number of collaborators who need direct access, and the review burden—not only the headline plan price.
