Import Your Content

Bring documents, files, and project records from the tools your team already uses into a Dokki workspace.

Start here

Pick the guide for the service you are moving from. Each one opens with a table showing exactly what arrives as an editable Dokki document, what arrives as a stored file, and what does not come across — read that table before you start, because it decides how much cleanup you should plan for.

Where to find it

Import lives in the sidebar. Point at the folder you want the content to land in, select the + that appears beside it, and choose Import…. To bring content into the top level of the workspace, use the + at the top of the sidebar instead.

Starting from the right folder matters: the destination is decided by where you opened the menu, not by a picker inside the dialog. The dialog shows the destination along its bottom edge so you can check before importing.

The dialog then walks three steps — Source, What to bring in, and After importing — and finishes with the Import button.

What import does

When you import, Dokki reads the item from the source service and creates a copy in your workspace. Content that Dokki can convert becomes a normal Dokki document you can edit, comment on, and search. Anything else is stored as a file, which stays searchable but opens in its original format.

The copy is yours. Editing it never writes back to the source.

Copy once or Keep in sync

Every import ends with this choice. Pick Copy once when you are moving off the other tool, or when you only need today's version. Dokki takes a snapshot and later changes in the source are ignored.

Pick Keep in sync when the source stays authoritative and you want the Dokki copy to keep receiving updates. Sync runs one way: changes in the source are pulled into Dokki, and your edits to the Dokki copy are never sent back. If someone edits a synced Dokki copy, the next refresh can overwrite that edit — which is why a migration wants Copy once.

Before a large migration

Import one folder or space first and read the result. Compare a page that uses your most demanding formatting — a wide table, an embedded diagram, a long checklist — against the original. That single comparison tells you more about the cleanup ahead than any estimate.

Then import the rest in batches you can review, rather than everything at once.

Who can import

You need permission to edit the destination workspace, and access to the content in the source service. Workspace admins manage the shared connections used for importing; other members can run an import when their workspace role allows it.

Limits

  • A single file must be 50 MB or smaller. Larger files are skipped and reported in the results view.

  • Comments, version history, and permissions from the source service are not imported. Set up sharing in Dokki after the content lands.

  • The results view shows every item as waiting, importing, complete, or failed. Open a failed item's error details before retrying — repeating the same import does not clear the original cause.
