Migrate from Linear

Bring Linear issues and documents into a Dokki workspace.

Kept

Descriptions come across faithfully, because Linear already stores them in the same format Dokki reads.

What to do

Comments

Most of the discussion on a Linear issue lives in comments. Copy the conclusions into the description before importing, or keep the Linear issue open for reference.

Status changes after import

The state is a snapshot from import time and does not update afterwards.

Labels, estimates, cycles, relations between issues

Not carried across. Use Dokki tags for the ones you want to keep filtering by.

What Linear import is good for

This is not a replacement for Linear as an issue tracker, and importing an active backlog is rarely useful β€” the copy stops tracking reality the moment it lands.

It earns its place when a Linear issue or document has become a reference your team keeps returning to: a decision record, a spec that outlived its ticket, a postmortem. Bringing those into Dokki puts them next to your other documents, and inside Dokki search, instead of behind a tracker that most of the team does not open.

Import from Linear

The documents land wherever you start from, so begin at the folder you want them in.

  1. In the sidebar, point at the folder you want them to land in and select the + beside it. To import into the top level of the workspace, use the + at the top of the sidebar instead.

  2. Choose Import….

  3. Under Source, choose Linear, then connect your Linear account or pick a connection someone has already set up. Connections are added and reconnected under Manage sources.

  4. Under What to bring in, choose the issues or documents you want. To bring in a single issue, paste its Linear URL here.

  5. Under After importing, choose Copy once. The state recorded in the document is a snapshot either way β€” it does not keep tracking the issue.

  6. The bottom of the dialog shows where the content will land. Check it, then select Import.

Who can do this

You need permission to edit the destination Dokki workspace, and a Linear account that can read the issues. Workspace admins manage shared connections; other members can import when their workspace role allows it.

If something fails

  • Reconnect the Linear account if authorization has expired.

  • Confirm the issue is one your Linear account can open.

  • Open a failed item's error details before retrying.
